Maryam Aurangzeb: no corruption proved against Nawaz Sharif

Maryam Aurangzeb, State Minister for Information, while commenting on the disqualification decision against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that even after the decision no corruption charges were levied against Nawaz Sharif.

“Even though the decision is saddening but it wasn’t unexpected when one looks at the history of Pakistan”, she said.

Maryam Aurangzeb however seemed misinformed about the decision of the Supreme Court and claimed Nawaz Sharif would be the next Prime Minister of Pakistan after 2018 general elections.

The Supreme Court in its decision disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for 10 years.

She said PMLN will explain its future strategy after consultation with its legal team. “It may be a temporary set back for our party but we will come out victorious from this.”

PM Nawaz Sharif resigns, cabinet dissolved, next PM to be finalized

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resigned from his post and dissolved the cabinet following a unanimous disqualification decision against him. According to spokesperson of the Prime Minister, the decision was unprecedented in the history of Pakistan and they have serious reservation about it.

A meeting is underway in the Prime Minister house to deliberate on the issue of choosing the next prime minister.

After the Iqama scandal, Khawaja Asif and Ahsan Iqbal are out of the race, according to a source present in the meeting. The most probable candidates are now Ayaz Sadiq, and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

However, sources claim that Speaker Ayaz Sadiq leads the race in the bid for prime ministership.

The session of parliament has already been summoned for 31st July and a new prime minister will be chosen on that day. If however, Ayaz Sadiq is chosen to be the next Prime Minister of Pakistan then first a new speaker will be chosen before members of national assembly can vote for a prime minister.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi finalized as interim Prime Minister, sources

According to sources present in the meeting convened to decide on the name for an interim Prime Minister, the name of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been approved for the temporary role. Mr. Abbasi will be Prime Minister for 45 days before Shehbaz Sharif takes over the role after getting elected as an MNA.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will take a vote of confidence from the parliamentarians at the next scheduled session of the parliament on Monday 31st July.

Shehbaz Sharif is currently serving as Chief Minister Punjab. He will resign as an MPA and contest election from the NA 120 constituency, the seat vacated by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif due his disqualification in Panama case.

Dr. Yasmin Rashid of PTI is likely to contest election against Shehbaz Sharif on NA 120 seat. She was runner up against Nawaz Sharif from the same constituency in 2013 general elections and received more than 50,000 votes.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi worked as Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources in the cabinet of Nawaz Sharif. He is believed to have a good working relation with both Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharifs.

PPP not quite sold on Sheikh Rasheed nomination

Sheikh Rasheed will contest election against PMLN’s Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for the PM slot.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has reportedly expressed its reservation on the nomination of Sheikh Rasheed as the collective nominee of the opposition parties for the Prime Minister slot. The meeting convened to decide on Sheikh Rasheed’s nomination went without any decision.

Saeed Ghani of PPP went as far as to say that if he were allowed to cast his vote, he would never vote for Sheikh Rasheed.

According to reports, the PPP stalwarts feel they were not properly consulted before PTI announced Sheikh Rasheed candidature.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi told reporters that PTI did call PPP leaders about their decision of choosing Sheikh Rasheed for the PM slot before publicly announcing it. “We believe Sheikh Sahab is the best candidate for the opposition parties”, he said.

However , sources close to PPP leadership claim that Imran Khan’s tirade against Asif Ali Zardari during his speech at Parade Ground Islamabad rally, is the main reason of PPP’s sour reply.

Imran Khan during his speech had claimed to go after PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari after dealing with Sharifs.

MQM Pakistan on the other hand announced their support for Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Robot waiters: how AI to steal human jobs, even in Pakistan

A restaurant in Multan recently became the center of attention not because of its taste but for its use of robotic waitresses, the first of its kind in Pakistan. The business of Syed Aziz Ahmed Jafari, owner of the fast food restaurant, boomed after he introduced this novel idea in his restaurant.

Syed’s son, Osama Aziz, an electrical engineering graduate, originally came up with the idea of employing robotic waitresses. The spectacle of robots serving food has since been stealing all the spotlights in Multan.

“Even people from other cities are coming to take a look at the robot and get served by it”, said the restaurant owner.

While it may be a novel experience in Pakistan, many Chinese and American restaurants started using robotic waiters as early as 2006. Though initially some of them proved quite incompetent, these worker robots however improved in their functionality with the passage of time, which resulted in more restaurants adopting the trend.

With Osama’s introduction of robots as waiters in Pakistan, it is more likely many others in the country will jump on the bandwagon of this technological innovation. The idea of robots serving food to customers is a fascinating one, and one that certainly attracts more customers who want  to experience this technological innovation, especially kids who love getting served by robots.

However, novelty and fun part aside, there is an unintended down side to this idea, something whose effects we might only see in future, just like we have seen in China and many other countries.

Many human waiters have gone jobless after the introduction of robotic waiters by restaurants. The price of a robot is a one-time cost for the restaurant owner which is just a couple of months salary of a waiter.

Moreover, with the advancement in robotic technology and it becoming more affordable by the day, more and more restaurateurs will be tempted to do this one-time investment in robots and cut on the long term huge cost of employing humans as waiters.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is getting leaps and bounds in its bid to instill human-like intelligence in machines. Each step forward by AI puts many jobs at risk of being taken over by machines.

Kai-Fu Lee, an influential technologist from China who previously headed Google China and is the founder of venture capital firm Sinovation Ventures, recently said Robots were likely to replace 50 percent of all jobs in the next decade.

There are already calls for new laws to protect robots from stealing human jobs. Gerlind Wisskirchen, vice-chair of the global employment institute, said existing laws regulating employment and safety are becoming rapidly outdated and need to be revised to include human job safety from the AI and robotic over-take.

While the pace of robots taking over our jobs might be slow, especially in a third-world country like Pakistan, it is inevitable. It is thus necessary to introduce laws to protect human jobs from getting stolen by AI.

Ayesha Gulalai’s fake twitter profile cleverly misleads people

After Ayesha Gulalai’s serious allegations against PTI leadership, a fake profile of her is misleading a lot of followers on twitter. Looking at the tweets of the profile, it looks like it is being managed by a well educated person. No one seems to have any idea that the profile they are interacting with is a fake one.

A casual look at the fake twitter handle @AyeshaGuIaIai will not give any hint of a problem. However, both the “L” in the Gulalai are actually capital “i”. If one instead uses @AyeshaGuiaiai then it goes to the same profile as that of the one which uses capital “i” instead of “L”.

Twitter allows its users to use both capital and small letters in twitter handles. The person who created this fake account used this opportunity and cleverly created an account that tricks people into thinking it’s a small “L”. The resultant name looks like a perfect spelling of her name, Ayesha Gulalai, when in fact it’s not.

The account has been running a malicious campaign against Imran Khan and other PTI leadership. So far only 19 tweets have been tweeted as of this writing. They blame Imran Khan of a wine drinker in addition to many other allegations.

The tweets are cleverly crafted and their pointed language doesn’t give an impression as if the account is managed by an ordinary person.

Even so, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is one of the followers of the account.

Imran Khan says won’t say anything derogatory against Ayesha Gulalai

In his first public remark on Ayesha Gulalai’s allegations, Imran Khan said he would not say anything derogatory against her. “After all, she is a woman, and I don’t want to say anything against her”, he said.

Imran Khan also refused to answer the question when he was asked if Ms. Gulalai had offered him to marry her. “I really don’t want to discuss this”, he replied.

Imran Khan said he was shocked when he heard about the sudden onslaught of Gulalai. He said just a day earlier she had met him along with her delegation to discuss PK 01, a constituency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and related issues.

“I don’t know what happened suddenly that she started talking like that”, he wondered.

Imran Khan said he believed Ayesha had a lot of potential. “I am really sad that Ayesha has been used in this dirty game”, he said.

The Mandela Effect – Myth of a Parallel Universe

‘Mandela Effect’, which may actually be caused by small glimpses of an alternative universe.
Are we living in alternate realities? Or has our reality, our timeline been changed? At one point or another split in two or are we now just noticing the effects and the changes of this split?

There has been a lot of talk recently about something called “The Mandela Effect”. So what is actually the Mandela effect? It is a theory of parallel universes based on the idea that large groups of people have been found to have similar alternative memories about past events.

Advocates of the theory claim these collective experiences to be true. The fabric of reality must have been shifted at some point in the past and therefore, not only the parallel inhabitable universe exists but that we are constantly switching between them.

The Mandela effect was first descried online in 2010 by a blogger named Fiona Broome. She described an experience at a convention called The Dragon Con when she discovered that other people had a false memory similar to hers which was that Nelson Mandela had died during his imprisonment in the 1980s. Nelson Mandela actually didn’t die until December 2013 but there is a lot of people out there who has memories of him dying when he was locked up in prison in 1980s.

Broome is quoted as saying that “I thought Nelson Mandela died in Prison. I thought I remembered it clearly with news clips of his funeral, the mourning in South Africa, some rioting in the cities and a heartfelt speech by his widow. I then found out that he was still alive”.

Fiona recounted discovering many widely held alternative memories including certain Star Trek episodes that had never actually existed. In 2012 another blogger named Reece expressed a similar idea but this time about the spelling of a popular children books series called “The Berenstein Bears” but if we look it online now it has changed to “The Berenstain Bears”. If the readers are kids of the 80s or 90s they may also remember the original name and can spot the difference.

There are plenty more such subtle changes noticed by people. People who have known these names and logos for years are now for the first time experiencing the fact that their memories are not correct. Something has changed.

Another popular event is that of “the tank boy”. A protestor went out and stood in front of a line of tanks in Tiananmen Square in China on June 5th 1989. Many people believe today that this protestor was run over and killed by the government tanks. But now we came to find out that he didn’t die. The tanks never touched him. A lot of people remember this event in which the boy was killed and how the backlash nearly caused communism to fall apart in China. This is really strange. It was taught to many people in schools. However, now it is not the case. The boy was never killed unlike millions of people remember it.

Another example is the popular cartoon “Looney Toons”. Kids of the 80s and 90s might remember it vividly how it was spelled. However, now if we search it online or watch the old videos it is spelled as “Looney Tunes”. I personally don’t remember it as “tunes” it was always “toons” like short for cartoons.

We all know the most famous line from the Star Wars movie, “Luke, I am your father”. But if we watch it now it says “No, I am your father”. He doesn’t say the word “Luke”. If we look up the memes and pictures it says otherwise but now it has changed. People have found changes in other movies like Shazaam, Dirty Dancing and so on. Similarly, according to firm believers of the Mandela Effect, logos of the popular automobile brands have also been changed.

That was about the believers of the Mandela Effect. The critics are of different point of view. False memory experts explain the Mandela Effect as confabulation, where different memories get mixed together to create something that a person comes to believe is true. Berenstain would therefore be remembered as “stein” simply because readers have grown up seeing far more names ending in “stein,” such as Einstein.

For people who have always misremembered a particular spelling, meanwhile, cognitive dissonance describes the difficulty of accepting evidence that contradicts a deeply held belief. Basically, we’re more likely to trust our fond memories of the Berenstein Bears and believe that Berenstain must be wrong. Confirmation bias then also plays its part: converts to a belief tend to seek out evidence that confirms their belief and disregard evidence to the contrary.

It could also be that every Mandela Effect convert was once a skeptic, chuckling at those who believe in alternate universes, until they each had that sudden surprising moment when they came across an example like Looney Toons, which they personally knew with absolute certainly was never, ever Looney Tunes.

A strong force driving the Mandela effect is suggestibility, the tendency to believe what others suggest to be true. When misinformation is introduced, it can actually compromise the fidelity of an existing memory. This is exactly why in a court of law an attorney can object to “leading questions” that suggest a specific answer.

Although it might be tempting to believe that the Mandela effect is evidence that parallel realities exist or that our universe is a glitchy simulation, a true scientist must test his or her alternative hypothesis by trying to disprove it. In light of known cognitive phenomena that can give rise to shared false memories, it’s highly unlikely that some of us are actually from an alternative universe crossing timelines with the present one.

Nonetheless, the Mandela effect is still a fascinating case study in the quirks of human memory. For those who love thinking about how the mind works, it is perhaps even an example of the truth being stranger than fiction.

Witnessing the totality of solar eclipse in USA

It was a total solar eclipse in the United States of America on Monday August 21st, 2017, this century’s first in the country. It started in oregano at 1:15 p.m. eastern time, with the skies getting dark just as the moon covered the sun, creating long shadows.

It ended at 3 P.M in South Carolina and was witnessed by thousands of Americans including the president of United States, Donald Traump and his wife Melanie Trump in Washington where the sun was 80% concealed by the moon.

However, many people were unable to witness the path of totality because of the bad weather. In places like Homestead National Monument of America in Beatrice, Neb, people were not able to witness the totality and chanted “go away clouds”.

A solar eclipse happens when the Moon crosses between Earth and the Sun and totally or partly conceals the Sun from Earth. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon’s apparent diameter is larger than the Sun’s, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness.

This was the first total solar eclipse in the United States of America in 38 years. And was treated with enthusiasm and many people traveled for miles to witness the phenomena. Though some were disappointed due to the bad weather.

In Carbondale, Ill., many scientists were gathered to witness and do research on the eclipse because of its long duration in the area, but were disappointed due to the bad weather and cloudy sky.

People were however warned by the government to wear glasses or any kind of shades to avoid direct contact with the eclipse due to its potential bad effect on the eyesight.

Famous Geo TV host Kamran Khan had his last show on Geo network on Thursday night. The last episode aired Kamran Khan’s emotional farewell to the program’s viewers.

Kamran Khan had been associated with Jang Group for the last 32 years which he mentioned in his last farewell message as well.

“I have been associated with Jang Group for the last 32 years and I hoped I would spend the remaining years of my career in this organization, but sadly this couldn’t happen”, said Kamran Khan in an emotional tone.

Although Mr. Khan did not clearly state reasons for leaving Geo TV but he did mention disagreements with owners of the Media House in a subtle way.

“Owners should not interfere and dictate how journalists should do their jobs; journalists know best how to do their jobs in a more professional way”, said Kamran Khan.

“Joining Bol Media Group”

He is reportedly joining upcoming rival media group Bol.

Bol media group has also confirmed that Kamran Khan joined Bol Group as President and Editor-in-Chief.

“Better Opportunity”

Some among journalist community termed Kamran Khan decision as having nothing to do with differences with management/owners. They claimed that Kamran Khan saw a better opportunity in the form of Bol and took it.

On the other hand, Tehreek-e-Insaf supporters claim that Kamran Khan had said live on TV that if he came to know that the allegations leveled against Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, Jung Group Owner, were true, he would quit.

He found out that Imran Khan’s allegations were true and this is why he quit, they say.
