How unfair is it that Something that is given so much importance in many parts of the world is given minimum importance in pakistan. Freedom of speech is part of life and cannot be neglected. No one can be stripped from it. Every other person has the right to say what they believe, what they are thinking. Who are we to stop someone from Saying what they are thinking? Who is anyone to stop any other person from doing so? A person doesnt eat out of your pocket he earns his bread himself he pays his taxes and is equal to you in all aspects and so each and everyone deserves to speak their heart out. You dont know what the other person has gone through in their lives what their journey has been like. But here in pakistan if you dare say anything that the majority does not want to hear your going to be shut down. Why? The main reason is because of extremism.
Extremism is never good in any case. It stops your from listening to others point of view and u believe that what your saying is right and you dont others are wrong and you dont need to hear them and this is why freedom of speech is snatched from the hands of the minority. How many times have we seem people of other religions trying to raise a valid point that we know is valid but due to this thinking others are denied a right to say how they feel because whatever the majority says is correct. People literally have been beaten receive death threats and what not just for speaking how they feel. Even if they are not harming anyone it still hurts the ego of the majority that how does the minority have a voice? How are they following us and not doing what we think is write and thus are shut down. In other parts of the world this freedom of speech is given so much importance for a reason. Everyone should have the right to speak and say how they feel, put their thoughts forward. Not being given such a basic right is very suffocating. How are people who are suffering be able to put their points across? Should they just sit in silence and suffer for the rest of their lives and after them their children and so on? NO. People have given lives for this freedom of speech, just so that they can be heard just so that they have a voice just so people know what others are going through. Life without freedom of speech is not a life worth living. Although article 19 of the constitution of pakistan does guarantee freedom Of speech and freedom for expression as long as it is not illegal or against islam wjhich is understandable but then again because of this extremist mindset anything said not in favor of the majority is taken as against islam by them. How does one explain to them that if something is different from your way, your believes it does not make it against your way and your believes and your religion. In no way are you being Harmed. Everyone has a right to practice what they believe no?
This issue isn’t something that I have just heard its something that I have seen for myself and at many points in my life experience it as well. many of my friends my colleagues have traveled from different parts of the city and have different believes I myself have seen how difficult life is for them. Being in minority they are never allowed to do anything according to their traditions and they aren’t allowed to say anything because if they do raise a voice they would either be shut down or made fun of.
The only solution I see to this problem is to remove this extremist mindset of people. So that they can put aside their ego and look at this whole scenario from a different perspective. So that they can know that giving freedom of speech does not lower our values or hurt your ego if the other person has his own believes his own thoughts his own sayings. Freedom of speech is a necessity of life and without it a person would just suffocate to death. So fight for whats right fight for your freedom of speech because without freedom of speech life is not worth living.
